I hope that you and yours are staying well. Those of you who have experienced my SpinFit class know that I’m a fan of Bruce Springsteen. In his song “One Step Up” he writes “one step up and two steps back”. That’s how I feel since the province imposed stage 2 guidelines last Friday. We were gaining some traction and our JCC was once again busy, following a 4 month closure and staged, slow reopening. We were managing all Covid protocols successfully while providing a full array of programs and facilities.

Thanks to all of you who have reactivated your membership and understand the importance of supporting the JCC regardless of whether or not you are currently utilizing the facility. We need that support now more than ever and sincerely hope that this 28 day reversal by the province will end on November 7.

Our pool remains open for lap swim, family swim in the shallow section, and we recently made an area available where members can perform their own aquatic exercises in chest deep water.

November is Jewish Book Month and we are excited to present Book Festival in your Living Room, a program of the Atlanta JCC and National JCC Literary Consortium featuring a stellar line-up of award winning authors. Find more information and get your tickets here.

We continue to offer several virtual classes through our Adult Cultural & Educational Program like Melton School of Adult Jewish Learning and Imagining a Better Society in Literature both of which are running at full capacity. Coming in November is Power in America: Election 2020 Part 2 with Dr. Elliott Tepper and, the Grandparents Circle in partnership with AJA50+ and JFO. Find more information on our website.

Plans are in the works for a virtual community Chanukah celebration and our Ganon Preschool and Just 4 Kids After School Program both remain open.

Check our website often for updates and program information.

We appreciate your support and your patience in this ever-changing world that we live in.

Stay well, stay fit, and continue to use our JCC.

All the best!

October 15

On Friday, October 9 the Ontario Government announced that indoor gyms and fitness centres in Ottawa are required to close for 28 days, beginning Saturday, October 10.

While we at the Soloway JCC have maintained a safe and healthy environment, for all of our members and staff, during this pandemic, we have no choice but to follow government protocols and close our Fitness Centre and stop all Group Fitness and SpinFit classes.

The pool, Ganon Preschool, After School Programs, and Cultural & Educational Programs will all continue to run during this time.

Memberships

We will not pause membership payments during this closure. We are taking a wait-and-see approach and are hopeful that we will resume our regular operations in 28 days.

Please check your inbox and jccottawa.com regularly to stay updated on everything happening at the SJCC.

We appreciate your patience and understanding.

If you have questions please contact SJCC President/COO Barry Sohn, bsohn@jccottawa.com

Stay safe.

We look forward to seeing you back at the Soloway JCC soon.
