Staff Applications

JCC of Ottawa Summer Camps counsellors are a team of passionate and compassionate staff chosen for their experience, skills and dedication to working with kids.

JCC of Ottawa Summer Camps provides staff training and professional growth teaching important skills that can be taken beyond camp and into future jobs. Camp counselors are entrusted with an incredible amount of responsibility and opportunities for developing leadership skills.

A job as a summer camp counselor teaches:

  • An ability to work under pressure
  • The ability to multi-task
  • A strong sense of team work
  • An ability to work with all types of people
  • Creativity and problem solving skills

Counselors are responsible for overall camper safety and well-being. Use your creativity to prepare and implement games and activities for your group over the course of the summer. As a JCC Summer Camps counselor you have the opportunity to be a leader, build relationships and memories that will last a lifetime for both you and your campers. Staff provide guidance and act as positive role models for campers as well as other staff.

Minimum Qualifications for all JCC Summer Camps

The ideal candidate:

  • Understands camp culture and willingness to fully participate in all camp activities and events
  • Is a strong leader and self-starter
  • Has previous experience working at camp and/or with children
  • Organized with an attention to detail
  • Has a positive and personable outlook, energetic, happy, hardworking, and effective in high pressure situations
  • Must enjoy working in a team environment

In addition to the above, each JCC Summer Camp has specific requirements. Take a look at the camps below and apply to the one that best suits you.

Traveling Sports Camp

Entering grade 10 and up

Hours:

  • All staff must be available for the entire duration of camp July 2 – August 16
  • 8:30 am – 4:00 pm
  • Must be available for pre-camp training

JCC Day Camp

Entering grade 10 and up.
Early Childhood Education (ECE) certificate an asset (recent graduates welcome)

Hours:

  • All staff must be available for the entire duration of camp July 2 – August 23
  • 8:30 am – 4:00 pm
  • Must be available for pre-camp training

Specialty Camps

Minimum age, entering first year university/college

Hours:

  • All staff must be available for the entire duration of camp July 2 – August 30
  • 8:30 am – 4:00 pm
  • Must be available for pre-camp training

Application process begins in early January. Applicants will be contacted for interviews on a first-come-first-serve basis.
