JCC of Ottawa Summer Camps

 June 12, 2020

JCC Summer Camps Families,

As you know, on June 5 we made the difficult decision to cancel all JCC of Ottawa Summer Camps for 2020. Given the current situation, we are unable to provide the regular summer experience that you expect from Day Camps, Traveling Sports Camp and Specialty Camps, in a manner that is safe for your children and for our staff.

We are reaching out now to let you know about a newly created SJCC Summer Program designed with provincial guidelines in mind to keep your children safe while they enjoy summer at the SJCC. Children will spend the day playing camp games, enjoying the outdoors, swimming in the SJCC pools (we are not able to offer instructional swim lessons this summer), and having fun!

While we are intending to move forward, our plans, at this time, are still contingent on approval from the City of Ottawa.

SJCC Summer Program details:

July 13 – August 21

  • Programs for children ages 2 and 3 (SJCC Members only); and 4-11 year olds (open to all)
  • The program runs from 8:30 am – 4:00 pm. No early morning drop-off or after care available
  • Eight campers and two staff members per group

We regret that we are not able to offer programs for all age groups this summer.

Registration & Fees

2 and 3-Year-Olds: SJCC Members only $2,250 (Additional charges for lunch may apply)

Six-week session
To register for this program please fill out the 2/3 Year Old Program Registration Form which will be available on our web site prior to the registration dates and email the completed form to ganon@jccottawa.com. Someone from the Summer Program Team
will be in touch to complete your registration.

4 – 11-Year-Olds: $650 SJCC Members • $750 Non Members

Two-week session
Registration for the 4 – 11 year olds will be available online at jccottawa.com. In order to accommodate as many children as possible, we are limiting registration to one two-week session per child. If space becomes available after our initial round of registration, we will allow families to register for additional sessions.

We will be in touch when all the details of the SJCC Summer Program are available.

Important Dates

Registration for those who were previously registered in JCC of Ottawa Summer Camps 2020 takes place June 22 and 23. Open registration begins on June 24.
Please register early as our smaller group sizes will fill up fast!

SJCC Credit

If you have a credit in your SJCC account, please go ahead and register online as you normally would for camp. You will not be able to access your credit through our online registration system; however, once you are registered and paid, we will send you a cheque to refund the difference.

Health & Safety Measures

  • The SJCC building will remain closed to all members during this time and will be available only for the SJCC Summer Program participants.
  • Each camper and staff member will answer a health questionnaire daily
  • Each camp group will have their own space within the SJCC/Campus and will remain separated from other groups throughout the day. Physical distance protocols will be enforced with the exception of staff interventions for behaviour management and issuing first aid.
  • Staff will remain with the same group the entire week and will not “float” between groups.
  • Parents and guardians will not be permitted into the building for pick up and drop off (weather permitting – more information on procedures coming soon).
  • The SJCC building itself, including high touch areas washrooms and all rooms used by participants, will be deep cleaned on an ongoing basis throughout each day.

We must have a minimum number of children per session, per week to run each group.

If you have questions regarding the SJCC Summer Program please contact, Angela and Reesa – ganon@jccottawa.com

We look forward to welcoming your children back to the SJCC this summer!

Dear JCC Summer Camp Families,

We hope you are staying well during this challenging time.

JCC of Ottawa Summer Camps has made the difficult decision to cancel all summer programs for 2020.

Given the current situation, we are unable to provide the regular summer experience that you expect from Day Camps, Traveling Sports Camp and Specialty Camps, in a manner that is safe for your children and for our staff.

Redesigned Summer Program
While we will not be offering our traditional summer camp, we are working on redesigning a program with public health measures top of mind. If permitted by government, the alternate program will include the following:

  • Smaller group sizes
  • Programs for children entering grades 1– 6, plus a component for children ages 2-5.
  • Screening protocols for all campers and staff
  • 4 or 5 weeks of programming
  • Half-day programs to accommodate more campers

Please take a minute to fill out this brief survey as we are trying to gauge interest in a redesigned program.

Should we decide to move forward, more details on registration, dates, and fees will be announced soon.

Soloway JCC Credit
We will be issuing credits which will be placed in your account and can be redeemed for future SJCC programs, including JCC Summer Camps 2021.

If you prefer a refund, please provide written notification to pberdowski@jccottawa.com and include:

  • Full name of child
  • Camp they are registered for (Day Camp, Traveling Sports Camp, Specialty Camp)
  • Mailing address

Refunds will be issued via cheque. Please allow four to six weeks for processing.

We appreciate your patience and understanding. We will be in touch soon with more information on our summer plans.

If you have questions please contact bsohn@jccottawa.com.

JCC Summer Camps Families,

We hope that you and your family are all doing well during these challenging times.

Like all of you, we are hoping that JCC Summer Camps will take place as scheduled, however; with so much uncertainty and everything changing daily, it is difficult for us to know, at this point, what the summer might look like.

We are forging ahead and planning for the summer while at the same time considering the possibility of a shortened program beginning later in July, as long as it is safe to do so. Based on guidance from the City of Ottawa and Health Canada, we will make a final decision by mid-June.

In the unfortunate circumstance where we do have to cancel the entire summer of camp, the option of a full refund will be available.

The JCC Summer Camps team is meeting regularly and will keep you updated on our plans as they progress.

As you are probably aware, our dear friend Jon Braun, Summer Camps Executive Director/Traveling Sports Camp Director passed away on March 9. And while Jon, (or JB as your children know him), will be missed this summer, we are fortunate to welcome Aaron Polowin back into the camp fold. Aaron is a French Teacher at the Ottawa Jewish Community School, as well as a former Traveling Sports Camp Assistant Director and camper. He was a long time friend of Jon’s and is a natural fit as Traveling Sports Camp Director.

We can all agree that JCC Summer Camps will play a more important role than ever in the lives of children as time outdoors and playing with friends is something everyone needs right now. We sincerely hope to make that happen for your families.

If you have questions regarding this summer please contact me at the email address below.

We appreciate your patience while we do our best to navigate this uncharted territory.

Stay safe and stay positive.
