Election 2019 – How Can I Vote?

Please find below an important message from Elections Canada regarding the upcoming Federal Election

Election Day 2019, currently scheduled for October 21, coincides with the Jewish holiday of Shemini  Atzeret, which begins at sunset on October 20 and ends on October 21.  The purpose of this commuiqué is to inform you about alternative voting options available to you other  than on Election Day – including at an Advance Poll, or through Special Ballot at an Elections Canada Office or through Voting by Mail.

Advance Polls
Advance polls will be held at specific advance polling stations on October 11, 12, 13 and 14, 2019, and  will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., local time. The dates and address of your advance poll will be available on the Elections Canada website, on your voter information card or by calling Elections Canada  at 1-800-463-6868.

The advance polling days that do not conflict with Shabbat (on October 12) or with the first day of  Sukkot (on October 14) are:

  • Friday, October 11 before sunset.
  • Saturday, October 12 after sunset.
  • Sunday, October 13 before sunset.

Voting by Special Ballot

In the upcoming election, you can register to vote by special ballot on any day from the election call to  October 15. You can register online, by mail, or in person at a returning office (a local Elections Canada office), an Elections Canada kiosk, or a Vote on Campus office located at a post-secondary institution.

After registering in person, you can either proceed to vote immediately at the location of registration. If  you apply online or by mail will receive your voting kit by mail.

To accommodate Jewish voters, Election Canada will be setting up Voting Kiosks at the following  locations:

  • Sunday, October 6, 2019 from 10 am to 6 pm at Beit Tikvah Synagogue, 15 Chartwell Ave., Nepean.
  • Monday, October 7, 2019 from 12 noon to 8 pm at Ottawa Torah Centre, 111 Lamplighters Dr., Nepean.
  • Monday, October 7, 2019 from 9 am to 7 pm at the Soloway Jewish Community Centre, 21 Nadolny  Sachs Private, Ottawa.
  • Thursday, October 10, 2019 from 9:30 am to 7 pm at Hillel Lodge, 10 Nadolny Sachs Private, Ottawa.

In addition, Elections Canada will host a Voter Information Kiosk in the lobby of the Soloway JCC on Wednesday October 2 from 10:00 am – 3:30 pm.

To vote, you will need to provide a piece of government issued photo ID with your address, or two  pieces of other ID, one of which has your current address. You can vote at these Election Kiosks even if you reside outside of the riding (s) where the Election  kiosks are located. You will need to know the name of your candidate and write it on the ballot.
