CONNECT WITH KIDS

(After-School Program)
Connect with Kids provides a safe, supervised, recreational and group
setting for school-aged children. The after-school program includes crafts, sports, special activities, quiet time for homework and a kosher snack. Connect with Kids is available Monday through Thursday for the entire school year and can be used weekly, daily or on a need to use basis. For Fridays please see Scouts About program below.

SCOUTS ABOUT
(Friday After-School Program)
In conjunction with Scouts Canada this program consists of structured play using games, crafts and outdoor activities
consistent with Scouts Canada values. No uniform is required for this program. Please note that ending times will vary throughout the year for Shabbat. Fees include registration to Scouts Canada.

HOMEWORK CLUB
This club takes place in the Greenberg Families Library where a supervisor will be on-hand to assist with homework. The Homework Club is available Monday to Thursday until 5:00 pm and is free for those enrolled in Connect with Kids or any after-school activity at the Soloway JCC. Pre-Registration is required.

BREAKDANCING
Break dancing, a hip hop street dance that combines the athleticism of sport with the freedom and self-expression of art, is back! Break dancing (b-boying/b-girling) promotes fitness and creativity while rocking to the beat.

ISRAELI DANCING
Boys and girls 10 to 16 come and learn
modern Israeli folk dances. No dance experience required. Simply learn dances and have fun! Program takes place in the Hillel Academy Gymnasium

BALLET
Under the guidance of Ballet Master Kirill Chour, graduate of the Vaganova Ballet Academy, children learn classical and modern ballet technique, creative choreography with elements from world famous ballets, character/ folk movements, acting in dance and much more.

FITNESS CLASSES

YOGA FOR KIDS
This is the perfect form of exercise for children. Yoga combines both functional strength and flexibility and includes conscious deep breathing which helps maintain body heat and helps focus
attention on the current activity.

KIDS KARATE
Martial arts as a form of self defense, philosophy and physical conditioning with an emphasis on reflex development, timing, eye-hand coordination, balance and a sense of well being. Instruction
will be in the Shotokan style. Basic skills, forms and sparring drills are stressed equally to offer students balanced training. Benefits of karate include strength, flexibility, self-confidence, concentration, self-awareness, improved physical fitness and more.

A white uniform is mandatory for this class which can be purchased from the instructor

SKILL BUILDING CLASSES

LEGO CLUB
Enjoy open ended fun with LEGO Technic and Mindstorms. Learn building methods, and choose from a variety of Technic projects including an amusement ride, a steering mechanism, a paper crinkler, and a “bumperbot”. Develop your own creations using a wide selection of Technic pieces including gears and motors. Learn about LEGO Mindstorms, and build a sensory controlled Lego robot.

SUPERSITTERS
In conjunction with St. Johns Ambulance, this class prepares future baby sitters for the challenges of looking after children. The material covered includes safety, conflict resolution, and emergency
procedures. Participants will be expected to participate in both theory and practical elements and successfully complete a final test covering both areas to receive their certificate.

FAMILY PROGRAMS

FAMILY SUNDAY FUNDAY
Join us on the last Sunday of each month for a variety of workshops, activities or holiday programs for the family. Each workshop begins with an activity and finishes off with a snack. The workshops are designed for children with their parents. Family Holiday Programs are aimed at babies to bubbies/zaides.

Costs vary for each program.
Pre-registration is required for the January and March programs.

FAMILY SKATE on the CANAL
Lace up your skates and join us for a community skate along the canal.
We will meet at the Dow’s Lake Pavillion at 1:00 pm and take a glide down the longest skating rink in the world.

(joint program with JET)
A family oriented afternoon full of Purim activities and food geared for everyone from babies to bubbies/zaides.

PARENTS NIGHT OUT
Need a night out but don’t have anyone to look after your children? Bring them to the Soloway JCC for an evening of fun including swimming, games, movies and snacks. Please feed your child dinner as we will only be serving snacks.
